Caregiver arrested in Jasper County vulnerable adult neglect investigation

JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - A Hardeeville woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and neglect of a vulnerable adult after Jasper County deputies found a bedridden man living in what investigators described as severe neglect.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded May 30 to a welfare check at a home on Calibogue Way. Upon arrival, deputies forced entry after discovering the front door had been nailed shut.
Inside, investigators found a vulnerable adult who was bedridden, nearly nonverbal and living without electricity, running water or food. Deputies said the man appeared to be suffering from severe neglect.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, where medical staff determined he was severely malnourished and emaciated.
Following an investigation, deputies arrested the victim’s primary caregiver, Shana Saxon. She is charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult and attempted murder.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed, according to the sheriff’s office.
