Braves return RHP Robert Suárez from rehab assignment, option RHP Owen Murphy
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Braves returned right-handed pitcher Robert Suárez from his rehab assignment and optioned RHP Owen Murphy in a corresponding move Wednesday.
Suárez last pitched for the Braves June 19 before going on the injured list with right elbow soreness. Before the injury, he had been one of the best setup men in baseball; the 35-year-old had pitched to a 0.56 ERA, 0.844 WHIP and 758 ERA+ in 32.0 innings. His 758 ERA+ is the best in baseball.
He threw a scoreless inning for the Gwinnett Stripers in a rehab appearance Sunday.
The Braves optioned rookie pitcher Owen Murphy to make room for Suárez on the roster. Murphy gave up 17 hits and 8.0 earned runs in 12 innings of work.
