What is Savannah’s 912 Day?

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah’s Mayor Van Johnson had a lot to say at this week’s press conference.

Despite the announcement of his prostate cancer diagnosis, Van Johnson was excited about the upcoming 912 Day- a holiday he created for Savannah in 2021.

This is more than just a day. There are 12 scheduled events that all culminate on September 12th.

The celebration begins Wednesday with the “9 Days of 912” Scavenger Hunt.

Van Johnson said he was surprised by the enthusiasm for it last year, and there’s a feature they’re adding to this new savannah tradition.

“We thought about it as a fluke…apparently people were really serious about that scavenger hunt," said Mayor Johnson.

“This year we have the cool element of having passport books where you can get your stamp as you travel across the city to find and solve all of the riddles that will be a part of it,” said Aurelle Ross, Strategic Communications Manager for the city’s office of public communications.

You can participate in the scavenger hunt by keeping up with the City of Savannah’s postings, and they will be offering a way to join the fun without needing social media as well.
