Weekend of gun violence leaves 3 dead, Savannah PD asks for tips from the public
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Three lives lost this weekend to gunfire in the Coastal Empire and at least two shooters are still wanted.
WTOC has been covering these shootings this entire weekend.
Rogers Street and the Montgomery Landing Apartments in Savannah, as well as the Ashton Apartments in Richmond Hill; were all scenes of gun violence over the weekend.
According to Savannah police reports, this year is less deadly than 2024 and 2023 respectively.
As of last week, 20 homicides happened this year in Savannah, that total is now up to 21 after this weekend.
Although overall crime is down 20% from this same time in 2023, law enforcement officials are concerned about seeing three different shooting scenes on the same night.
Around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, a man was shot and killed in the 1200 block of Rogers Street.
EMS tried CPR at the scene, but he died there. This victim has not been identified yet.
No arrests have been made yet either.
30 minutes later in Richmond Hill, two teens were killed.
18-year-old James Wallace and 19-year-old Umar Haqq were their names.
This shooting happened at the Ashton Apartment complex on Harris Trail Road.
The GBI is now in charge of this investigation, while their autopsies are completed.
No one has been arrested so far.
Then an hour and a half after that around 11:30 p.m., a major police presence and crime scene tape up at the Montgomery Landing apartments in Savannah.
Those apartments are located at 714 West 57th Street.
We received multiple calls about this incident, alleging a shooting happened at building 400; the same building where a 14-year-old was shot and killed earlier in the week.
SPD says a shot spotter notification went off, but no injuries were reported.
Savannah Police reports reveal there have been 21 homicides in 2025.
That’s one less than this exact time last year and six more than this time in 2023.

SPD says a huge issue is getting witnesses to come forward.
“Even if you’re not sure, it never hurts to give us a call. Any kind of tip, it will be helpful because we need the community’s help in solving a lot of the crime that happens in the city,” said SPD Community Engagement Officer, Rebekah Helmick.
If you ever see something happen in your own community, don’t just call SPD when you need something- reach out and send in anonymous tip to help solve crimes in our city.
You can do that through the SPD mobile app and oftentimes there is a reward available.
