WTOC Top Teacher: Angela Peters

by Mike Cihla

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - “I became a teacher later on in life, it wasn’t until I had kids of my own, that they were grown up a little bit, one was in school, one was a toddler. But I took time off from work, I volunteered in the school system, and that’s when I realized that this is what I need to be doing. What is another way we can be doing this. I feel so strongly about making the impact that I have on children, especially working in a K-8, I might teach them 4th or 5th grade, but then as they are going through the rest of the grades for middle school, I can actually see how they are still growing, still talk to the students, so I truly love working at K-8, and seeing the growth in the students that I teach. I think the rapport, the relationship, that I build with my students, is one of the most important things. Once I have that, I can do so much more, they are more engaged, more willing to take risks, and learning is a lot easier. My goal is to make sure they feel in a safe place, safe to make mistakes, grow from those, and know we are all learning together. I am still learning today,” said Peters.
