WTOC Top Teacher: Amy Thomas

by Mike Cihla

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - In a world where learning begins with laughter and lessons are wrapped in love, one local educator is making a big impact on our little learners.

“I always wanted to be a teacher. Growing up my mom and dad were both teachers so it was in my blood, it was my 12th year teaching, but my 11th year at Rincon Elementary. I just love when the light bulb comes on when they are reading and you can just see they are so excited about learning, because I tell them on the first day of school, this is your class family. These are your brothers and sisters in school. It’s a big, huge family and we want to do what’s best for you. Make you feel safe. It’s great to see when the lightbulb comes on and the say “Oh I can do this.” I know how to do this. And things they have never been able to do before. They are like ‘Oh, I can read.’ It makes my heart happy knowing that they are succeeding to keep up with them and see what they are doing. Proud of them no matter what. Because they always make me proud," said Thomas.
