UPDATE: Stand off in Liberty County neighborhood ends with death of suspect, GBI investigating
LIBERTY COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a Maryland man involved in a warrant execution that ended in gunfire at a home in Liberty County.
According to a statement from the GBI Saturday, just before 2 p.m. Friday, the U.S. Marshal Service attempted to execute felony arrest warrants for 26-year-old Daquan Phillips, of Baltimore, Maryland, at a home located in the 30 block of Factors Walk in Hinesville.
Officials say Phillips was uncooperative and barricaded himself in the home. Multiple agencies, including the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the Hinesville Police Department, Savannah Police Department SWAT, theMcIntosh County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia State Patrol responded to assist.
After hours of attempting to communicate with Phillips, entry was made into the home and Phillips was discovered in the home with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
He was later pronounced dead by the Liberty County Coroner’s Office.
A 5-year-old child was removed from the home safe and unharmed.
Phillips’ body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, Georgia where an autopsy will be performed.
The GBI is investigating this situation at the request of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
This case is active and ongoing.

{ORIGINAL STORY}-The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a warrant execution that ended in gunfire at a residence in Liberty County.
Authorities say the man targeted by the warrant was wanted for aggravated assault in Maryland.
U.S. Marshals arrived at a home in Tranquil South of Flemington to serve the warrant when the situation escalated.
A young child was inside the home at the time. Officials report that the child was unharmed.

McIntosh County deputies joined the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department along with Hinesville Police, Georgia State Patrol, and the Savannah Police Department.
The suspect was eventually removed from the residence but was shot during the operation. According to the the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, he later died as a result of his injuries.
There has been no word yet on whether the homeowners will face any charges in connection with the incident.
The scene was cleared around 7 p.m.
The GBI has been called in to investigate this incident.
