Tybee Island sees visitors from around the nation during Labor Day weekend

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - Labor Day Weekend festivities continued Sunday, and despite double red flags being flown earlier, Tybee Island’s beach was packed this afternoon.

“We’re kind of from all over. We got some Californians, some Baltimoreans, Tennesseans. See, people from Washington,” said Nathan Webb, who was visiting the island with friends.

People from all over the country found themselves on Tybee Island over Labor Day weekend. With Sunday bringing better weather, people made their way to the beach early to ensure they could get a spot.

“Tybee’s no better place to do it,” Webb said.

From the beach...To local businesses, visitors took in in all the small island has to offer.

“Let me tell you what about this place. It’s nice, it’s quaint, it’s small enough that everybody can enjoy it, but it’s large enough,” said Teddy Moody, visiting from Texas.

Even with less-than-ideal weather Saturday, visitors said they still enjoyed themselves.

“We didn’t care, and we still were out there having an awesome time,” Webb said.

Visitors said they experienced a charm on the island they haven’t seen anywhere else.

“The people are cool, man they’re nice. You know they come out, they have a good time. Like you can ask anybody for a hug and they’ll hug you,” Moody said.

These visitors said say it’s what made the region a clear choice for their Labor Day travel plans.
