State recognizes 16 Savannah-Chatham schools for academic achievement
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The state’s top education leader is honoring local schools for standout achievement.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods recognized 16 Savannah-Chatham County public schools.
Campuses received “literacy leader” and “math leader” banners for showing strong reading and math results.
“When you can acknowledge and reward students and schools for their achievement growth, but certainly it’s a collective effort ” said SCCPSS Superintendent Dr. Denise Watts.
“We can always improve and I think what we see today is that with these banners and these recognitions that improvement is taking place,” said Woods.
The state said the awards are designed to reward both high achievement and big growth, with even higher expectations for schools that started with lower scores.
The district said it hopes these honors will motivate even more schools to focus on literacy, math, and support for military families in the years ahead.
