Stand off in Liberty County neighborhood ends with death of suspect, GBI investigating

LIBERTY COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a warrant execution that ended in gunfire at a residence in Liberty County.

Authorities say the man targeted by the warrant was wanted for aggravated assault in Maryland.

U.S. Marshals arrived at a home in Tranquil South of Flemington to serve the warrant when the situation escalated.

A young child was inside the home at the time. Officials report that the child was unharmed.

Active police situation in Liberty County

McIntosh County deputies joined the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department along with Hinesville Police, Georgia State Patrol, and the Savannah Police Department.

The suspect was eventually removed from the residence but was shot during the operation. According to the the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, he later died as a result of his injuries.

There has been no word yet on whether the homeowners will face any charges in connection with the incident.

The scene was cleared around 7 p.m.

The GBI has been called in to investigate this incident.
