Senator once arrested at Ga. Capitol to run for MTG’s seat

ATLANTA, Ga. — A Georgia state senator who was once arrested at the state Capitol has entered the race for Marjorie Taylor Greene’s congressional seat.

State Sen. Colton Moore, R-Trenton, announced his candidacy on social media on Monday.

Earlier this year, Moore was attempting to enter the state House chambers to attend Gov. Brian Kemp’s 2025 State of the State speech. Moore had been banned from the House floor by Speaker Jon Burns, who was irate over Moore’s denunciation of late House Speaker David Ralston.

Moore called Ralston “one of the most corrupt Georgia leaders we’ll ever see in our lifetime.” Moore made his comments during debate on a Senate resolution last year honoring Ralston by allowing a building on the University of North Georgia’s campus to be named for the late lawmaker.

In late November, Greene stunned the nation’s political establishment when she announced she was resigning from the seat, effective Jan. 5, 2026.

Moore served one term in the state House before his election to the Senate in 2022.

In September 2023, after Moore called for a special session to review Willis following her indictment of Trump, he was suspended from his party’s caucus.
