Second inmate in a week dies at Lee Correctional

BISHOPVILLE, S.C. (WIS) - For the second time in a week, an inmate has died after a reported assault inside a South Carolina prison.

The South Carolina Department of Corrections said Xavier Martez Delesline, 33, was allegedly assaulted in the common area of his unit at the Lee Correctional Institute in Bishopville.

The agency said Delesline’s death is being investigated as a “suspected homicide.”

News of Delesline’s death comes a day after SCDC said another inmate, Mario Leven Harrison, also died after being assaulted at Lee Correctional. Harrison died Monday after being taken to a hospital.

Both deaths are being investigated by the SCDC Inspector General’s Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s Crime Scene unit and the Lee County Coroner’s Office

At this time, no suspects have been named in either assault.
