Savannah seafood restaurant featured on television show after overcoming Tropical Storm Debby damage

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -A local restaurant that closed for months due to Tropical Storm Debby flooding will be featured on the television show “America’s Best Restaurants.”

Loves Seafood, located on the Ogeechee River in Savannah, has been operating since Harry Truman was president. The restaurant’s recovery from storm damage caught the attention of Amanda Valentine, a host for “America’s Best Restaurants.”

“What really stands out is the fresh seafood being right on the water,” Valentine said.

Valentine said she selected the restaurant because of its history, food and story of perseverance.

“These people have really fought for something they ‘love,’ pun intended to make sure that everyone can come out here and have this amazing experience still,” Valentine said. “So I think that everybody’s been through really hard things and to know that you’re supporting a restaurant that has fought through that and be this when you come today makes you bond with them a little bit more.”

Community support speeds recovery

The owners said community support for the restaurant has been “amazing” since Debby’s flooding. While they initially estimated it would take around seven months to reopen, the restaurant reopened in just a couple of months thanks to friends and regular customers.

“You have the beautiful water view where they’re catching fresh seafood, you have the beautiful indoor space but just knowing a family has run this space with such care for so long I feel like you can feel that when you walk through the door,” Valentine said.

The restaurant’s feature on “America’s Best Restaurants” is set to air in March. The episode will premiere on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
