Savannah’s 20th annual Wag-O-Ween raises funds for local animal rescues

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah’s annual Wag-O-Ween took place this weekend, raising funds and awareness for local shelters and animal rescues.

Owners dressed up their dogs and took them “trick-or-treating” to various vendors set up at Pulaski Square. The event ran Saturday and Sunday.

This marks the 20th year for the event. About 3,000 people take part each year.

The event supports 12 local rescues, raised over $100,000 last year and sponsors 300 spays and neuters in the community.

“We are down here celebrating Wag-O-Ween for two days, where Renegade is one of the dominant rescues for any breed, even those of which many rescues are uncomfortable taking on,” said Alexa Frame, partner with Renegade Rescue. “They deal with every single rescue and situation, not just in and around Savannah but they service the whole Lowcountry.”

The event included costume contests, races, photo opportunities and activities for participants.
