Savannah Police Dept. receives donation of K9 medical ‘Buddy Bags’

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Protection4Paws is a non-profit organization that gives life-saving equipment to K9s, including trauma and heat-related illness supplies.

The Savannah Police Department got a donation of these medical kits from Protection4Paws.

According to a release, these “Buddy Bags” are designed to provide essential equipment for the safety of the K9 Unit and the fastest possible medical care for the K9.

These kits include a wide variety of items for time-sensitive emergencies or hostile situations. According to a release, each medical kit has approximately $400 worth of supplies.

“Key items include: ACE bandage, Elasticon bandage, paper tape, CoFlex wrap, 10cc syringe (for inducing vomiting), gloves, 6″ gauze roll, cast padding, 4x4 gauze pads, petrolatum pads, Telfa pads, razor, tweezers, bandage scissors, hemostat, Benadryl, eye saline/drops, artificial tears, 3x antibiotic ointments, wound cream, alcohol, peroxide, BZK wipes, slip leashes, lubricating jelly, digital thermometer, cotton balls, ear cleaner, WoundSeal for nail clots, WoundSeal for blood clotting, blanket, SAM splint, K9 leg splint, burn sheet, saline rinse, collapsible water bowl, cold packs (2), tourniquet, muzzle, K9 oxygen mask, and BVM bag," detailed a Savannah Police release.

Now, Savannah Police Department’s K9 Atlas and K9 Blu each received their own K9 medical kit.

“On behalf of the department, they’d like to express their gratitude for this generous donation,” wrote Savannah Police.
