Rincon Police responds to ‘use of force’ incident

RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) - The Rincon Police Department released a statement on social media Monday following an incident Saturday afternoon.

Rincon Police said they are aware of Saturday’s incident during which, “officers used force in the course of detaining multiple individuals.”

Several people were taken into custody in connection with this event.

Rincon Police said this incident is being thoroughly reviewed through their internal review process.

“As with any use of force by our officers, this incident is being thoroughly reviewed through our internal review process to ensure that all actions taken were in accordance with department policy and applicable law,” wrote Rincon Police in a social media post.

They said the officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation.

“The Rincon Police Department is committed to transparency, accountability, and maintaining the trust of the community we serve. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our community as we conduct this review,” concluded the police department.
