Residents express frustration over road conditions on Bay Street

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Drivers that live near Bay Street in Savannah are pleading due to damaged roads in the that they say are becoming dangerous and inconvenient.

One ride share driver WTOC talked to says it’s dangerous to drive through the Bay Street area if you don’t have a bigger car.

He also says it’s been like this for years.

“I would come here often to pick up people or to do deliveries,” said Rodrigo Rodriguez, ride share driver.

Rodriguez has live in the area for about 10 years.

He’s a part time ride share driver that’s watched these patches in the road get worse overtime.

“It makes it difficult,” said Rodriguez. “Not only as a driver, as pedestrians also. Somebody just came out of the building right now, he had to walk around the puddles, around three puddles, in order to get to the next street over.”

To him, these look like potholes.

He says it forces people to make U-turns in a very tight spot.

“What they need to do is, is to see who’s responsible for this area,” said Rodriguez.

That’s a question that many want the answer to.

Including a nearby apartment complex owner who says he put in a complaint Wednesday for road issues and flooding that’s cost them thousands of dollars.

WTOC took the issue to the city of savannah who confirmed they responded to a request for service and are addressing it.

“With all the new industry and all the tourists that come into town and all the progress that we have, that we have one little block that is forgotten about,” said Rodriguez.
