Rep. Carter meets with families impacted by government shutdown, projects end in sight this week

APPLING COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Many parents hope the government shutdown ends soon for the sake of their kids.

Republican Congressman Buddy Carter met with some of them at an early education center Monday.

WTOC visited Appling County’s Action Pact headquarters which normally isn’t just a senior center, it also has a headstart early education program, but that’s been closed down due to the government shutdown. Buddy Carter went there and visited earlier Monday to listen to what parents who have been affected by this shutdown had to say.

Congressman Carter has been to the center before, and he listened as parents brought forth issues like needing babysitters, as well as having their children’s education and speech therapy taken away.

“So this is the real life impact, yeah getting the troops paid, getting SNAP, WIC, all those programs are extremely important but we got other programs that are impacted as well and if I could I’d bring all 534 members of the United States congress down here and let them see firsthand what’s going on here,” said Rep. Carter.

We also spoke with the Headstart Director for Action Pact Incorporated, and she said the senior center isn’t far away from shutting down too.

That would take away delivered meals, health services, and other support services from their members.

Carter told us this week is when he estimates this shutdown is going to end with elections Tuesday and another chance to open up the government.
