Police chase ends in arrest after suspect hits tree, reverses into GCPD officer’s vehicle

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A Brunswick man is under arrest and facing multiple charges after a vehicle pursuit on the morning of Friday, July 18.

According to the Glynn County Police Department, Deandra Lashawn Fairley (33) was approached during a traffic stop by GCPD Officer Jonathan Miller when the officer noticed “what he believed to be an illegal narcotic in a clear plastic bag in the center console of the vehicle.”

A press release from the GCPD states that Fairley fled the traffic stop in his vehicle and Officer Miller pursued.

Fairley’s vehicle later left the roadway and hit a tree at the intersection of Canal Road and Old Jesup Road.

According to the GCPD, Fairley then “placed his vehicle in reverse and rammed Officer Miller’s patrol vehicle.”

Fairley’s vehicle then became disabled “without further incident” and he was taken into custody.

The GCPD says Fairley is being charged with the following crimes:

  • Taillight violation – Misdemeanor
  • Fleeing or attempting to elude police officer – Felony
  • Aggravated Assault upon a public safety officer – Felony
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol – Misdemeanor
  • Open container of alcoholic beverage in vehicle – Misdemeanor

Currently, Fairley is being held in the Glynn County Detention Center.
