Ogeechee Heating & Air kicks off annual food drive
EVANS COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - One Evans County business is making it their mission to ensure children don’t go hungry this holiday season and they’re asking for your help.
Starting December 1, Ogeechee Heating and Air will place about 60 boxes at businesses throughout Evans County for people to drop off non-perishable food items.
It will kick off their 5th annual Christmas food drive.
The drive began in 2020 at the height of the COVID- 19 pandemic, and the company has continued it after seeing how many children, especially during the holidays when school is out, struggle with food insecurity.
The general manager says it’s up to the community to step up and help make a difference.
“During these holidays is when they suffer when they are out of school for so long. The school can only take care of them so much. And not laying the blame on anybody, no parent or anything but it’s our responsibility to take care of our youth and our babies.”
Those boxes will be picked up from local businesses, including banks and hardware stores on December 19.
Soon after, Ogeechee Heating and Air will donate the food to local food banks and to the Evans County school system to help students have enough to eat during Christmas break.
