Off-duty Huntsville police officer charged with burglary, kidnapping in Thanksgiving Day incident

MERIDIANVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - An off-duty Huntsville Police officer was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with burglary, kidnapping.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Brandon O’Field was arrested after running from authorities and attempting to barricade himself inside his home.

MCSO said it all started when patrol units were dispatched to Keva Street in Meridianville early Thursday morning in reference to a domestic violence report.

They said, upon arrival, two victims confirmed that O’Field, the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims, had forced entry into the residence.

Authorities said they located O’Field driving nearby and attempted to pull him over.

That’s when O’Field ran from officers, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.

O’Field then barricaded himself inside his home, authorities say. But after a brief standoff, O’Field eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

Neighbors said they were shocked when they heard what happened because it is such a quiet neighborhood.

They also said they have seen O’Field over at his ex-girlfriend’s home, and he always seemed friendly.

Madison County Chief Deputy District Attorney Tim Gann gave a statement on O’field’s arrest and charges.

He is held without bond, pending an Aniah’s Law hearing. That hearing will be set sometime next week. The date has not been determined.

O’Field is being held inside the Madison County Jail without bond.

WAFF 48 has reached out to the Huntsville Police Department for comment. Here is their response:

The Huntsville Police Department is aware of the arrest of Officer Brandon O’Field, who was off duty at the time of the incident.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is serving as the lead investigative agency. While they conduct the criminal investigation, HPD has opened an internal investigation.
O’Field has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome. No further information will be released at this time.
