New playground is coming to Daffin Park, Forsyth Park playground to be upgraded
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Savannah made some exciting announcements about additions and upgrades to popular local parks.
The City of Savannah’s Recreation and Leisure Services Department says they will start work on a new Daffin Park playground and begin upgrades to the playground in Forsyth Park.
Construction at the new Daffin Park playground is tentatively scheduled to begin the second week of September and is estimated to last four months. The city says this new playground is one of the largest single investments made to date under the Recreation Re-Imagined Initiative.

The new playground will be located in the northwest corner of Daffin Park.
The city says it will, “serve ages 2-12, be fully ADA compliant, and include a new restroom and new splashpad. The new playground area will include seven unique zones: a splish-n-splash zone, twist-n-turn zone, bump-n-jump zone, story time zone, swing-n-things zone, and the mega zone. The mega zone will include two large climbing units, multiple activity stations, slides, inground whirl, seesaw, shade cover, and more.”
Daffin Park isn’t the only local park getting upgrades.
Beginning the first week of September, crews will replace the playground surface at Forsyth Park.
The city said the current playground surface has worn down and no longer meets safety standards.
"The rubber surface will be replaced and expanded, while the wood fiber will be upgraded to a longer-lasting rubber mulch," wrote the City of Savannah in a press release.
The park will close during this process, which is expected to take two weeks.
