New apartment complex opens in Beaufort; Looks to be a place for young professionals
BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - A new workforce housing option has officially opened in the City of Beaufort.
U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) was in attendance for the opening on Friday, and he says that hopefully similar complexes will open across the state.
Senator Scott said that this year, one of his big goals in Washington is affordability, especially when it comes to housing.
“Having a chance to live in a quality product and experience a quality of life happens when people of good intent come together,” Scott said. “They put profit as a secondary motivation and serving the community as a primary motivation.”
There are over 300 2-bedroom and 2-bathroom units at the Pointe Grand Apartment Homes complex in Beaufort.
A place considered to be attainable housing or somewhere that may interest young professionals or families that are just starting.
The owners say that a lot of sweat and tears have gone into this project over the past several years to get this complex built, but that they were finally able to open it up to the area.
Most units are set up the same with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and master suite, but there are also other amenities around the complex like a pool, gym, and grilling area.
Each will cost between $1,600 to $1,900 to rent each month.
The City of Beaufort says it is always trying to bring younger people to the area, and an option like Pointe Grand advances that goal.
“One of the objectives has long been to bring younger working professionals to the city, not just to work here, but to live here as well,” Beaufort City Manager Scott Marshall said. “When you introduce another avenue and location that speaks well of not only this development, but the city as well.”
And they go along with attainable options; they are also looking at ways to create more affordable housing options.
“We are looking forward to finding some ways to introduce more available units, more available housing for more affordable housing,” Marshall said. “Whether that’s new construction or finding some to incentivize current inventory to be offered at levels people can afford is also an option we would like to explore.”
