Multiple events cancel across the region as others continue to kickoff the holiday season

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Several communities on Friday, December 5, are celebrating the holiday season with Christmas tree lightings, movies, and treats.

Holiday events Friday in the Lowcountry

  • The Night on the Town event starts Friday night at 6 p.m. in Beaufort, followed by a tree lighting at 8 p.m.
  • In Bluffton, there is a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Martin Family Park at 5:30 p.m., then they will be playing “Arthur Saves Christmas” afterwards.
  • There’s also a tree lighting in Estill at 5:30 p.m.

Holiday events Friday in Georgia

  • In Lyons, their parade starting at Partin Park kicks off at 6 p.m., and Santa is available for pictures beforehand, starting at 4 p.m. at the Gazebo.
  • Rincon’s Christmas Tree Lighting at Veterans’ Park is at 5:30 p.m.

Holiday events canceled due to weather

  • The 29th Annual Liberty County Illuminated Christmas Parade has been canceled. Originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5, the parade will no longer take place.
    • “This difficult decision was made after careful consideration and in the best interest of our community. Over the past several days, parade entries began withdrawing at a rapid pace, including several key participants. Multiple bands canceled, and the Board of Education also withdrew out of concern for student transportation and safety. With these significant changes, it became clear that we could not deliver the quality experience our community expects and deserves," said the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce in a statement.
  • The Glennville Chamber of Commerce announced they are adjusting their celebration of the Christmas Season this year due to weather. See adjustment posted on their social media account, here.
  • Hazlehurst tree lighting is canceled and the Christmas Parade scheduled for Saturday has been pushed to Monday 7 p.m.
  • The City of Guyton’s Winter Sale on the Trail on Saturday has been canceled due to the weather.
  • The Jesup parade has been rescheduled for next Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
  • The Richmond Hill Christmas parade has been canceled due to weather concerns.
  • Hilton Head’s tree lighting has been postponed to next Wed. at 5:30 p.m. The Winter Wonderland Festival Saturday has been canceled due to the weather.
  • The Hampton Christmas parade and Tree Lighting have been canceled due to the weather.
  • The Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting in Port Wentworth AND the Annual Christmas Parade on December 6 is has been canceled due to weather.
  • The Savannah African Art Museum is cancelling their Kwanzaa Marketplace that was scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 in Savannah due to weather.
  • The Long County Christmas Parade has moved from December 4 to December 11, 2025, at 6 PM.
  • The Christmas Market and Christmas Parade in Bloomingdale have both been rescheduled for Saturday, December 13th.
