Moon River Opera adds booze to ‘Pirates of Penzance’ performances

by WTOC Staff

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Moon River Opera is performing “Drunk Opera: Pirates of Penzance” this weekend, mixing the classic opera with alcohol as part of their mission to make opera accessible and entertaining.

The local singing troupe is offering two different performances of the show. One features traditional singers, while the other includes performers who drink during the production.

“It’s always really fun, our motto is making opera fun again in Savannah, and so anytime we can take a show that’s already starting from a really fun place and then add our little twist to it... we have the right people to make a magical and weird and wonderful time,” said Brenna Dudley, artistic director of Moon River Opera.

The company offers two ticket types for audience members. Main character tickets include audience involvement during the show, while general admission allows patrons to watch without participation.

The sober singer performance is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. The performance featuring drinking singers is set for Saturday night.

Tickets are available at moonriveropera.com/shows-and-events/.
