Mid-day robbery at Claxton convenient store marks 4th incident in several weeks

CLAXTON, Ga. (WTOC) - The BP Food Mart in Claxton is now the 4th business in the last few weeks to fall victim to robbery.

WTOC spoke with the owner of the store who says he just wants to forget this ever happened.

Hitesh Patel shared the surveillance video from Thursday’s robbery.

He said he was so scared because he has a wife and a 2-year-old baby at home.

“Give it to me, all the money in the bag”, Patel said reenacting the robber.

“I was scared,” said Patel. “He showed me a gun, a very big one. After he robbed the place, he told me to go into the cooler. I locked myself inside because I was so scared, and I stayed there until he left,” said Patel.

WTOC also spoke with the police chief Dale Kirkland who said that the biggest issue they face is public cooperation.

The GBI is working alongside the Claxton Police Department to help identify the suspect.
