Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society celebrates 20th annual Buddy Walk in Forsyth Park
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Over 3,000 people headed to Forsyth Park Saturday for the 20th Annual Buddy Walk, hosted by the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society.
The event kicked off Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. with opening ceremonies, which led into a one-mile walk through Forsyth Park. There was also a Family Fun event from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Buddy Walk, a walk of celebration and community, raises awareness for those with Down syndrome. Proceeds from the event helps programs like Camp Buddy, a summer camp designed to help students retain skills over summer break.
“This event is all about coming together as a community to support and celebrate individuals with Down syndrome,” said Candy Bogardus, president of LDSS. “Every step we take at the Buddy Walk makes a real difference in the lives of families across our region. We encourage everyone to come out, participate, and help us continue our mission.”
Saturday’s event marked two decades of the Buddy Walk in Savannah.
