Law enforcement searching for suspect who escaped custody in Claxton

CLAXTON, GA (WTOC) — Several law enforcement agencies are searching for a suspect who escaped custody during transport Tuesday evening, according to the Claxton Police Department (CPD).

This afternoon, CPD and the Evans County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division made an arrest connected to recent entering-auto thefts in the area.

During transport to the jail, a physical altercation occurred, and the inmate escaped custody near James Street and Grady Street.

The escapee has been identified as Dayquan Islar, age 28, who was last seen wearing black pants and a black shirt.

Immediately following the escape, multiple law enforcement agencies initiated an active search.

Several streets along West James Street between Church Street and North Newton Street have been blocked off as the search continues. The operation involves the Claxton Police Department, the Evans County Sheriff’s Office, and several assisting agencies.

The search began around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening and remains ongoing. Officials state that efforts will continue until the suspect is located.

Authorities remind the public that anyone assisting Islar in this incident will be prosecuted, as these crimes have caused significant impact to the community and its citizens.
