Hwy 80 reopens after closing due to tidal flooding

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 1:24 p.m. 10/10/2025] Highway 80 between Bull River and Lazaretto Creek has reopened, WTOC has confirmed.

Those wishing to get to Tybee Island for Pirate Fest and other activities, as well as those wishing to get off the island, should now be able to do so as normal.

[ORIGINAL STORY] Due to heavy flooding from high tides, Highway 80 is currently closed.

This information comes from the Tybee Island Police Department, who says “Highway 80 between Bull River and Lazaretto Creek is temporarily closed due to an unusually high tide.”

WTOC meteorologist Andrew Gorton says the tide peaked at 10.35′ at 11:36 a.m.

This marks the 8th highest tide on record at Fort Pulaski.
