Hungry Club Forum of Savannah hosts Black Business Elevation Gala and Leadership event
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Black businesses and their work in our communities were on full display Saturday night for this year’s Black Business Gala.
The Hungry Club Forum of Savannah recognized their members at the Vintage Special Event Center.
There was live entertainment, cultural tributes, and formal recognition of leaders who continue to move Savannah forward.
“We know that all businesses matter, especially here in Savannah, small businesses are the core of what we do, but we also have to highlight those that are marginalized that don’t get the attention that they deserve,” said the President of Hungry Club, Robert Bryant.
Bryant told us Saturday’s event was one of their fundraisers, but more importantly, it’s about celebrating community.
“As a business owner, and of course a black business owner, this is a very special day. Being able to pay homage to other business owners is a great feeling, and also being able to watch the young people get their award is going to be great,” said Secretary of Hungry Club, Roshida Edwards.
Edwards says the event means so much to her since she owns the venue the gala was held.
One recipient of Saturday’s Gala was Willie Ferrell, who received the President’s Award for his outstanding spiritual leadership in the Savannah community.
“I’m so excited that I almost forgot my name,” said Ferrell.
Bryan says Ferrell and others have laid the groundwork for change.
That it’s only right for them to get their flowers.
“And when somebody else sees the work that you’re doing and recognizes you, I count it an honor, a blessing, as well as a privilege,” said Ferrell.
Bryant said all are welcome to their board meetings which are on the first Saturday of the month, to voice their concerns and be heard in the community.
