Hundreds brave cold weather for Veterans Day parade in downtown Savannah
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Hundreds of people lined the streets of Savannah on Tuesday as more than 100 bands, floats and organizations participated in the city’s Veterans Day parade, despite cold weather.

Many parade goers waved flags and played patriotic songs while veterans proudly wore their branch’s emblems. Families carried pictures of their loved ones and cheered on their children in marching bands.

Everyone showed up on the chilly morning to honor the sacrifice, selflessness and service of all military members. Attendees said neither cold weather nor distance could stop them from showing love and patriotism to their country.
ROTC programs showcase future leaders
Joe Higgins, chairman of the Chatham County Veterans Council, praised the young participants in the parade.
“All of the bands look great. The ROTC’s out here are all high school. They’re doing an amazing job. They’re building these kids up,” Higgins said. “Hopefully for military service one day, but they’re giving them life skills. They’re teaching them about time management, discipline, getting them ready to be adults.”

Higgins said while the council missed having active-duty members in the parade, their biggest concern is what’s best for them and them getting paid.
The council looks forward to the parade each year, and planning starts around a year out.
