HILTON HEAD, SC. (WTOC) - Shore Beach Service in Hilton Head shared their Beach Patrol 2025 statistics report. Statistics revealed the name of the beach with the most incidents in 2025, busiest day of the year, number of persons rescued and number of marine animal injuries, among others.

"These numbers represent real moments, real people, and real lives impacted. We’re proud of the work our 2025 team put in and grateful for every guard who made a difference," wrote Shore Beach Service.

Coligny Beach was named as the beach with the most incidents in 2025, according to Shore Beach Service.

WTOC headed to Coligny Beach for some of those incidents this year. Back in May, a rare sperm whale was beached on Hilton Head’s Coligny Beach.

We spoke to beachgoers and a marine animal biologist with NOAA at the time to learn more about this rare occurrence.

The whale was eventually euthanized and buried after washing ashore.

Then in June, we covered shark bite reports on Hilton Head Island.

Which led us to ask the question: Is there a connection between shark bite reports and buried sperm whale?

Our team also headed to the island for Independence Day, which 2025 Shore Beach Service reveals was their busiest day. Click here for that coverage.
