HILTON HEAD, S.C. (WTOC) - An 82-year-old woman who was arrested and charged for shooting and killing her husband on Hilton Head Island has been granted bond, WTOC has learned.

Harriet Kay Recker is accused of shooting and killing her 81-year-old husband, Dennis Recker, at a Hilton Head Island care facility on September 12, 2025.

She is charged with Murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and was previously being held at the Beaufort County Jail.

However, judicial documents show Recker has now bonded out of jail.

Bond was set on November 5, 2025, and amended on November 7, 2025.

Recker’s bond was set at $50,000 with the condition that Recker “may live with son in Hawaii” and that she “shall not be released except into custody of Anthony Empting.”

News of Recker’s arrest shocked many, including Ted Dwemoh, a Beaufort County resident who provided pest control services for the Recker’s Sun City home.

“When I saw her picture, I was dumbfounded, like there is no way that this woman did what they are saying she did,” Dwemoh said.

On October 10, a judge found probable cause in the case, sending it to a grand jury.
