Gov. Kemp returns from Korea to visit Hyundai megasite expansion

BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) -The Hyundai megasite is expanding with a massive new technical training facility.

In September, the Hyundai megasite witnessed the single largest ICE raid in history. And it sent hundreds on a plane to South Korea. During governor Brian Kemp’s time visiting that country, President Donald Trump said he had opposed the raid.

“We’ve had great communication with the president himself,” said Kemp. “I have with the White House with secretary Rubio‘s office you know really streamline the post incident process getting the workforce back here that’s ongoing right now very appreciative of their support.”

He says the conversations he had in South Korea weren’t about focusing on the raid itself.

“Really the main topics we discussed was not the incident that happened at the Metaplant but it was about how do we move forward,” Kemp said.

This 89-thousand square foot building is right around the size of an average middle school. The Hyundai Mobility Training Center of Georgia will be focused on technical training, and is sponsored by Georgia Quick Start.

This is to better train workers and to keep operations running smoothly and safely. It’ll be used as a sort of practice facility, taking employees through step-by-step immersive training exercises to prepare them to work for the megasite. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp was there and got to walk around the facilities earlier in the day.

“I was thinking the whole time I was doing the tour this is gonna be such a good marketing tool for us to show other companies that are looking to come to Georgia like what we can do with our training facility, what we can do with our future workforce. It’s going to be such a good opportunity for our hardworking people, very exciting day,” said Gov. Kemp.

The center will also hold six classrooms, a VR lab for practicing safety procedures, and multiple other labs like automation or paint lab.

“We already have people here we’re excited to get them on this incredible equipment and then next year with our hiring goals we expect hundreds if not, thousands of people to come through this facility,” said the megasite’s chief administrative officer, Brent Stubbs.
