Glennville Dairy Queen participates in annual Miracle Treat Day

GLENNVILLE, Ga. (WTOC) - Thursday the small town of Glennville celebrated their biggest tradition that is known around the country.

That is of course the annual Miracle Treat Day at a Dairy Queen unlike any other.

This Dairy Queen in the heart of the small town of Glennville may be the only one that could sell a $5,500 dollar blizzard for a good cause.

“Small town big heart,” said Zubar Malek, owner of Glennville DQ. “That is what this community is about.”

This Dairy Queen has been ranked in the top ten in the country every year since 1984 for raising the most funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Glennville Dairy Queens owner who made this into a successful tradition, Zubar Malek, says the community looks forward to all year.

“When its for a good cause, the community rallies behind and the small town we ended up at number one several times and we’ve been in top 10 for years,” said Malek.

Locals tell WTOC that Miracle Treat Day is a tradition that means more than just stopping by for some ice cream.

“We have really really worked over the past few years to bring unity back into this community to be as one,” said Amy Terrell, Glennville resident.

A tradition that wouldn’t be complete without the annual bidding for a DQ blizzard.

This year, it sold for $5,500.

“It’s very near and dear to all of our hearts and I hope that the community understands that one day it could be their family member that could be in need for something like this,” said Terrell.

A portion of the proceeds from each blizzard sale is donated to a Children’s Hospital.

The money raised in Glennville is donated to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in Augusta.
