Georgia DOT seeks public input about reconstructing S.R. 17 to S.R. 30 proposed connector

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Transportation is asking for the public’s input about widening and reconstructing the proposed connector from State Route 17 to State Route 30.

A major component of this proposed project, they wrote, would widen Highlands Boulevard and Benton Blvd. from two to four travel lanes with a 20-foot raised median within the project limits.

The estimated total cost for this is $62.8 million.

They said it’s to reduce the number and severity of crashes and improve congestion there via Highlands Boulevard and Benton Blvd.

The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Godley Station Middle School at 2135 Benton Boulevard in Savannah.

Comments will be accepted through Friday, May 29.

There will be no formal presentation so that interested participants may stop by at any point during the meetings.

“The proposed roadway improvement project focuses on widening and rebuilding the Connector from SR 17 to SR 30 (via Highlands Boulevard and Benton Boulevard) to better support the area’s growing passenger, freight, and transit needs, as well as improve access for people walking and biking,” they wrote.
