Georgetown apartment fire victims receive furniture donations from local moving company
CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A local moving company donated furniture to families displaced by an apartment fire in April that left dozens of people with almost nothing.
After a fire overtook a Georgetown apartment complex just a few weeks ago, BC Brothers moving company reached out and donated their time to help those families rebuild.
One building at the Georgetown apartment complex was overtaken by flames in April, displacing dozens of people.
“So we ran out and from there watched it burn to the ground,” said Kimberly Williams, a fire victim. “There’s no words that can explain. You just feel lost and you just hope that it goes out and it doesn’t hit your home, but unfortunately it did.”
Mothers threw children from windows
Mothers desperate to save their babies from the flames threw them out of a three-story window to police awaiting below.
BC Brothers said after they heard about the devastation, they knew exactly what they needed to do to support their community.
“So today is a pretty special day for us, a chance to give back to the community and show our love for Georgetown. This is where we came from,” said Cullen Murphy, assistant dispatch.
Monday, BC Brothers surprised Williams with new furniture.
“Today we loaded up part of a truck with a bunch of furniture and we’re going to go ahead and bring it out to her so that she’s not displaced and she has a place that she can call home,” Murphy said.
“But I am now grateful that BC Brothers has helped me,” Williams said. “It’s so amazing to know that there’s so many people out here that’ll help. You just have to ask.”
BC Brothers moving company said Monday was one of the most rewarding days they’ve ever had and they are planning to continue to help community members who lost everything.
