Garden City Police announces successful Grappler deployment just days after program launches

by Christopher Teuton

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Just days after launching its new Grappler program, the Garden City Police Department says it has already safely stopped a vehicle without injuries.

The Grappler is “a vehicle-mounted device that deploys quickly during traffic encounters.”

It works by securing a fleeing vehicle’s rear tire with a heavy-duty net, tethering it to the patrol car and bringing the pursuit to a stop.

On the evening of September 2, 2025, Garden City Police say officers safely stopped a vehicle using this tool.

In a social media post, the GCPD says the vehicle was brought to a controlled stop and no one was injured.

"This is a great example of how new technology helps keep both the public and our officers safe," the post states.

You can see the full statement, as well as images from that encounter, below.

Police state that this is an ongoing investigation, and no further information about the circumstances of why the Grappler needed to be used will be provided at this time.
