In September 2025, video showed off-duty deputy Billy Squires in his sheriff’s office gear walk up to three teens with his gun pointed at them while also yelling at them to get on the ground.

The video later shows Squires getting into a fight with them after going for a book bag.

The deputy was also fired after the incident for violating the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office’s code of conduct.

Another person, 47-year-old Brian Henry Stahlheber, was charged with Breach of Peace - Aggravated in Nature and Making a False Complaint to a Law Enforcement Officer.
