Evans County school bus head-on crash with pick-up truck hospitalized approx. 30 kids
CLAXTON, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 1:19 PM 9/5/2025] In a press release, the Evans County School System confirmed that approximately 30 students were treated at Evans Memorial Hospital following the head-on crash with a pick-up truck on September 4, 2025.
All injuries are non-life-threatening, the school system says.
“We are grateful to the hospital staff for their swift and compassionate care plus our first responders,” the school said.
“All students have been accounted for, and families of students who had injuries have been notified,” the school continues.
The Georgia State Patrol is actively investigating the incident and Evans County Schools are coopering with their investigation and will provide additional details at a later date.
[ORIGINAL STORY] Georgia State Patrol responded to a serious crash Thursday afternoon involving a school bus and a Nissan Titan on State Route 73 near Pine Street in Evans County.
The crash happened around 3:51 p.m. when the school bus, traveling north in the left lane of SR 73, moved into the southbound lane.
Officials said the bus driver had been attending to a student who left their seat and moved into the doorway when the incident occurred.
The school bus then collided head-on with a Nissan Titan.
Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway following the impact.
The driver of the Nissan Titan was transported to the hospital with suspected serious injuries.
Authorities confirmed that all students on the bus were also taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
The Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
