Evans Co. Sheriff’s Office addresses recent shooting incidents through crime operation
EVANS COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Evans County Sheriff’s Office conducted a crime prevention and suppression operation after several recent shooting incidents.
In a post on their social media page Sunday morning, Sheriff Mac Edwards addressed recent shooting incidents in the areas of Church Street between Jones and Magnolia Streets, as well DeLoach Mill Road. Sheriff Edwards says the suspects involved in these incidents all have ties to the surrounding communities, including Evans County.
The Evans County Sheriff’s Office, along with ATF, Georgia State Patrol, GBI and Claxton Police, conducted a three day crime prevention and suppression operation titled “You Can’t Have Claxton.”
Officials say during the planning phase of this operation, shell casings recovered from each incident were consistent with shooting incidents that happened in Evans County and surrounding areas. Their focus was the Claxton, Hagan and highways that enter into Evans County.
During the three-day operation, law enforcement conducted safety checks at entrances to Evans County, made contact with the public to gain information and make arrests in connection with the recent shootings and any other crimes happening in the area.
“The operation was a success and just as it was named, we’re telling these suspects ‘You Can’t Have Claxton.’ Our citizens don’t won’t this type of violence and we stand for them not you. The Evans County Sheriff’s Office will stand devoted to protecting Claxton and Evans County citizens,” said Sheriff Edwards.
