Daughter of Midway Mayor identified as woman who died in Hinesville shooting

HINESVILLE, Ga. (WTOC) - Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard confirms that the woman who died in the shooting was Lakretia Clancy.

The police chief says Lakretia is the daughter of Midway Mayor Levern Clancy, Jr.

 [UPDATE]: Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard confirmed on Wednesday the woman who was shot inside a car Tuesday night has died.

He said she passed away during surgery.

This case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Police responded to a shots fired call in the area of Strickland Road and EG Miles Parkway.

The police chief described what officers found when they got to the scene.

“They observed the vehicle in the wood line area. There was also a passenger in the front who was not harmed. Everything now indicates it may have been the result of a confrontation in the car between the two individuals. We’re still very early in the investigation and trying to validate that,” said Chief Howard.

[ORIGINAL STORY]: Hinesville Police are investigating a shooting involving a woman found in a car Tuesday night.

Just before 9:00 p.m., police responded to a shots fired call in the area of Strickland Road and EG Miles Parkway.

Police Chief Tracey Howard said when officers arrived on scene, they found a woman shot inside a vehicle.

The victim was airlifted to Memorial Health for treatment.
