City of Savannah to host open public meetings on the future of the Savannah Civic Center site
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Savannah is inviting residents, business owners and community stakeholders to discuss the future of the Savannah Civic Center site.
These discussions will take place at two separate public community meetings on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and Wednesday, Oct. 29. The city says information gathered at these meetings will help guide the redevelopment of land around the Civic Center.
- What: Civic Center Legacy Open House
- When: Tuesday, Oct. 28, 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Where: Civic Center Ballroom, 301 W. Oglethorpe Ave.
- Agenda: 5 p.m. Open House; 6 p.m. Presentation
- What: Civic Center Legacy Open House
- When: Wednesday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Where: Civic Center Ballroom, 301 W. Oglethorpe Ave.
- Agenda: 10 a.m. Open House; 12:30 p.m. Presentation
Both events will be a drop-in format.
The open house events will focus on the economic and land use study where community members can learn more about what the study has uncovered and explore potential scenarios for future development. The city says attendees are invited to share what matters most to them for the future of the Civic Center site.
All of this comes after Savannah’s City Council voted to demolish the MLK Jr. arena and renovate Johnny Mercer theater at Civic Center last June.
