Brunswick Arbor Day giveaway offers free trees February 21
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Brunswick residents will have the chance to take home a free tree during the city’s Arbor Day celebration on February 21 from nine a.m. to noon at Mary Ross Park.
Hosted by the City of Brunswick Tree Board, the event aims to help preserve and expand the city’s urban tree canopy while educating the public on proper tree care.
Native trees available include holly, maple, birch, persimmon, white fringe tree, and more. Trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Officials say residents must bring identification to verify city residency, and there is a limit of one tree per household.
The event will also feature educational tree plantings at 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., along with pruning demonstrations throughout the morning.
Brunswick has been recognized as a Tree City USA community for 24 years, and this marks the fourth year the Tree Board has received a Georgia ReLeaf grant to support the giveaway. Last year, more than 90 native trees were distributed to residents.
Additional seedlings will be available to Glynn County residents through partnerships with Keep Golden Isles Beautiful and Georgia Power. Organizers say the effort supports the city’s goal of maintaining a 30 percent tree canopy while promoting the environmental benefits of planting native species.
