Beaufort probation officer charged with multiple counts of Assault, Battery, and Misconduct in Office
BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - David Johnathon Shytle, Jr. has been charged with two counts of Assault & Battery and five counts of Misconduct in Office by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
According to arrest documents, “on March 14, 2025, while employed as a Probation Officer for the South Carolina Department of Probation Parole and Pardon, the aforesaid, one David Johnathon Shytle, Jr.” committed Assault and Battery by “willfully, unlawfully, and maliciously” performing actions which caused “nonconsensual touching of the victim’s private parts.”
These charges came Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Another incident in the arresting documents, dated “on, about, and between November 13, 2024, and March 7, 2025,” describes another time “David Johnathon Shytle, Jr. did commit the offense Assault and Battery in the second degree” by “causing nonconsensual touching of the victim’s private parts.”
Other incidents in the arrest paperwork indicate Shytle Jr. willfully engaged in multiple inappropriate relationships with parolees under his supervision.
These incidents all took place between 2024 and the first half of 2025.
This case will be prosecuted by the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Shytle Jr. was booked in the Beaufort County Detention Center.
