Arrest made in fatal shooting on Benton Blvd., Savannah Police investigating
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE as of 12/5/2025] The Savannah Police Department announced that 40-year-old Alfonso Warner was arrested on Dec. 4 in connection with a fatal shooting in the 1400 block of Benton Blvd.

Police say with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals and Richmond Hill PD, Warner was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.

[UPDATE as of 12/1/2025] The Chatham County Coroner’s Office said they are investigating the death of 48-year-old Arthur Gaynor on November 29.
The coroner’s office said Gaynor was shot at least one time.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
[ORIGINAL STORY] One person is dead after an early morning shooting.
According to Savannah Police, the shooting took place in the 1400 block of Benton Boulevard early Saturday morning and say it was not a random act, but rather an arranged meeting.
Officials say around 5 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a call when a woman reported she was driving a man to the hospital after he had been shot. First responders met them on the way and took over; however, the male victim died from his injuries.
When WTOC crews arrived at the scene, there was still a large police presence that included six squad cars. The area was taped off, and an apartment window was shattered.
Police say a person of interest has been identified.
No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains active.
