‘He stated that he guesses that he is a rapist now’: Pooler man arrested on child sex crimes indicted by Grand Jury

POOLER, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 7/16/2025] He has been indicted by a Chatham County Grand Jury for child molestation, 2 counts of cruelty to children in the 1st degree, sexual battery against a child under 16, and sexual battery.

[ORIGINAL STORY] A 30-year-old man in Pooler is now facing some serious charges after an arrest last week.

Jmoi Charles was recently arrested by Pooler PD for child molestation, two counts of sexual battery and one count of cruelty to children in the first degree.

He was booked into the Chatham County Jail on April 14, 2025 and indicted on July 2, 2025, on the following charges:

• Child molestation
• 2 counts of cruelty to children 1st degree
• Sexual battery against a child under 16
• Sexual battery

Arrest records from April 13th reveal officers responded to a home in Pooler for the report of sexual assault against a child.

The arrest report reveals that when officers got to the home, Charles was sitting in his car outside. He moved to the back of the vehicle to talk with officers.

“He stated that he guesses that he is a rapist now”, the arrest report reads. Officers then asked Charles to elaborate on what he meant.

“He stated that he took mushrooms and stated rambling... He then stated that he touched the two kids inside the home inappropriately.”, the arrest report reads. Charles then went into more graphic details about what happened.

He was then placed in handcuffs and placed into the back of a patrol car.

The report identified a child as Juvenile 1, that child told officers that Charles came into her and her sister’s rooms and inappropriately touched them that day. She stated this was unwanted touching.

The homeowner told police that she left to go to her boyfriend’s home for the night and left her daughters with her mother at the home.

Her daughter texted her around 11 p.m. wanting her to come home because Charles was making them feel uncomfortable, the arrest report reveals.

Police reported that when the mother returned home, her daughters told her that Charles had touched them multiple times throughout the day. The first time around 4 p.m. and the second time around 11 p.m.

The arrest report says Charles did not receive a bond and will be arraigned at a later date.
