Yurezz Mobile Home Center owner answers questions during bankruptcy hearing

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - For the first time since Yurezz Mobile Home Center filed for bankruptcy, one of the company’s owners answered questions publicly about the business and its ongoing bankruptcy case.

Heather Altman, who identified herself as the vice president and secretary of Yurezz Mobile Home Center, answered questions during a bankruptcy hearing.

Attorneys questioned Altman about the company’s finances, assets, creditors and real estate, while customers and former employees also raised concerns during the meeting.

Altman confirmed that several items had been seized by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, including computers, books and records. She also said her home was searched in June.

The Appling County Sheriff’s Office also seized items from the company, according to testimony during the hearing.

When asked what the sheriff’s office took, Altman said she did not have an inventory list and turned to someone else for help.

“There were multiple questions from various attorneys about the company’s finances and other concerns,” Altman said. “At times, she said she did not want to answer certain questions because she did not want to misspeak.”

The hearing also included questions from customers who say they are still trying to determine what happened to their money and when they may receive homes they purchased.

One customer said she has been unable to find an attorney willing to take her case.

“I have spoken with 15 different attorneys that have not been able or willing to take my case,” the customer said during the hearing.

Another customer said she still does not have the home she purchased from Yurezz and said she and her family have been homeless.

“We still don’t have a home. We’ve been homeless since this, so I kind of want to know where our money went and how do we go about getting it back,” she said.

A former Yurezz employee also spoke during the hearing, defending her actions amid fallout from the company.

“For the record, for any attorney listening, any customer, anyone — Mr. Kelly — I did not do a thing that I was not instructed to do by Richard and Heather Altman,” the former employee said.

Yurezz previously said it was operating on a limited scale before filing for bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy trustee Walter Kelly said the case will take time to work through. He encouraged former employees and customers who believe they have been impacted to continue reaching out to attorneys and provide any evidence they have.

Many Yurezz customers have told WTOC they are struggling to find an attorney to take their cases.

The bankruptcy proceedings are ongoing.
