World Breastfeeding Week celebration coming to Savannah on Aug. 1

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Coastal Health District and Healthy Savannah are inviting breastfeeding mothers, families and supporters to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week with a free community event next month.
The celebration will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pennsylvania Avenue Recreation Center, located at 425 Pennsylvania Ave. in Savannah.
This year’s National Breastfeeding Month theme is RISE, which stands for Resilience, Interdependence, Self-Determination and Empowerment. Organizers say the theme highlights the importance of supporting families, strengthening community partnerships and ensuring parents have the resources to make informed feeding decisions.
The event will feature breastfeeding education, displays and giveaways from local organizations, WIC and nutrition assistance sign-ups, a celebration walk and family-friendly activities.
Organizers say breastfeeding provides important health benefits for infants and families, but emphasize that successful breastfeeding depends on strong community support and access to resources.
The event is free to attend, but advance registration is required because space is limited. To register click here.
More information about the event, local breastfeeding services and registration is available through the Coastal Health District here.
