Woman arrested after man shot on St. Helena Island, Beaufort County deputies say

ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. (WTOC) - Beaufort County deputies arrested a 55-year-old woman after an adult man was shot early Sunday on St. Helena Island, authorities said.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded shortly after midnight on July 5, 2026, to a home in the White Sands Circle area after a report of a gunshot victim. Deputies found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound who was responsive and alert, the agency said.

Deputies assisted the man until Beaufort County EMS transported him for treatment. His injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.

Stephanie Legree, 55, was arrested without incident and charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators said the shooting happened during a domestic argument at the residence. A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered, authorities said.
